Developmental editing is the blueprint stage: plot, structure, pacing, character arcs, and whether the story works. Line editing is the finish carpentry: sentence rhythm, word choice, clarity, and flow. Most manuscripts need developmental first — paying to polish sentences in a scene you’ll later cut is money wasted. If you’re unsure which stage you’re at, that’s exactly what a free consultation is for.
-
It depends on your word count, the manuscript’s condition, and which level of editing it needs. Our developmental and line editing run 4¢ per word (about $10 a page), proofreading is 2¢ per word, and a 25-page manuscript review is a flat $325. For an 80,000-word novel, a developmental edit runs about $3,200. You’ll always get an exact quote in writing before any money changes hands — no surprises.
-
More than ever. When you self-publish, there’s no publishing house safety net catching plot holes, pacing problems, or typos before readers do — and readers leave reviews. A professional edit is what separates a self-published book that reads as professional from one that reads as rushed. It’s the single highest-return investment most indie authors make.

Microsoft Word with tracked changes — the industry standard. You see every suggestion and accept or reject each one yourself. Google Docs works too if that’s your home base.
-
Yes — in writing. Every engagement includes confidentiality. Our founder is a published novelist; protecting an author’s unpublished work isn’t a policy for us, it’s personal.
-
Then we talk — every edit includes a follow-up call. Our notes are suggestions backed by reasoning, and your name is the one on the cover, so you always get the final word.
